Lindy-Fay comments on the release of “Whisper”: “It is about the creatures in this world. Those we can feel around us sometimes, but not necessarily see. Who lives within nature. The Trolls, the Fairies, the Mythical once. Every culture have stories about them and suggestions of how to interact or not. In our greedy times, where capitalism’s cold hands are grabbing everything in sight, the existence of these creatures are threatened. “I am in the earth you walk on, in the woods. In the air.”

The track is taken from the new full – length ‘Islet’ which will be released via By Norse on March 8, 2024. The beautiful auditory experience was created during the pandemic, from which the musicians merged with an album that paints a vivid musical canvas of our collective journey through unprecedented times.

About Lindy-Fay Hella & Dei Farne: The Norwegian collective Lindy-Fay Hella (Wardruna) & Dei Farne is releasing their second full album “Islet” via By Norse on the 22nd of March, 2024. The beautiful auditory experience is the next in line of many successful releases, such as her 2nd album “Hildring” in 2021 and “Seafarer” was released by Lindy-Fay Hella solo in 2019.

The music for this album was mostly written during the Corona times. Roy Ole and Lindy-Fay were sitting in their homes, isolated like most people were at the time, just sending ideas to each other which eventually turned out to be a whole album. They noticed that the sound of it all had a kind of loneliness and coldness to it that they wanted to keep.

They emerged with an album that paints a vivid musical canvas of our collective journey through unprecedented times. As the world stood still, she found solace in crafting melodies that encapsulate the emotions of isolation.

No lyrics were written at that point, so in the beginning of 2023, Lindy-Fay went to Portugal, a country which she never visited before, to get inspiration for words. She spent the days walking around, just looking at things and to see what happened. She discovered an Islet that totally mesmerised her which has been a symbol for her; A magical place of its own, within the endless ocean. A solid place in the Sea of loneliness.

The beauty of “Islet” lies in the exchange of musical ideas during this unique period. Collaborating remotely, we discovered a novel way of working that felt strangely fitting for the times – a fusion of vulnerability and innovation. Vocals, synths, and programming became our pillars, forming the backbone of a sound that is both intimate and expansive.

Lindy-Fay’s sonic exploration led her to Solslottet studio, where Iver Sandøy worked tirelessly alongside her, contributing not just to production but becoming an integral part of their creative journey. Sondre Veland’s distinctive drumming and energy, coupled with the unexpected insights of Jørgen Træen, added layers of complexity and emotion to the tracks.

Jørgen Træen, an expert in the alternative music scene since the ’90s, offered a fresh perspective with ideas that pushed boundaries. The result is an album that features vocals pushed to uncomfortable closeness, eerie synths, and programming that defies convention.

Beyond the studio, Lindy-Fay ventured into Jan Tore Ness’s space, capturing the essence of unique instruments like the old harmonium.

The album’s sound and atmosphere encapsulates the magic of solitary creation during the lonely and dark period, followed by a harmonious reunion with musical collaborators.

“Islet” is not just an auditory experience; it’s a testament to the resilience of creativity in challenging times. “Don’t do anything you don’t want to do, just because someone tells you to”. Join Lindy in sharing this human experience that is “Islet”.
