Spotlight on … Silius.

*When did you really get involved into music in general and into metal specific? Who was responsable for your interest in (metal) music? Which artists or bands did influence you the most?

We got into music about at the age of thirteen..started playing instruments and found our first bands and really stuck on metal music since then! Bands like Pantera, Exodus, Fear Factory, Metallica,..list goes on and on were influencing us most also in our former bands. Hanging out with friends and make music together was the ultimate hobby to all of us!

*Which instrument do you play and how and when did you learn to play? Did you had lessons in school or private lessons? If so, was that because your parents expected that from you? Or did you learn to play the instruments by yourself? Do yo still follow some lessons?

Some of us were at an instrument school but for a short time I would say. Nowadays you can also learn metal guitar for example in private lessons or at school but back in the days this was not possible. So learning by doing was the thing and what better way than practise in a band!? The singer also played guitar in earlier bands and the bass player Martl also can play guitar. Haui and Ralph played together in a rock band before Silius as a guitar player and drummer already.

*Do you follow other or are you intrested in other styles of music beside metal? If so, what is the music you prefer to listen to?

Of course we don’t listen to metal 24/7 but I think we all prefer handmade music. When it’s not metal it’s definitly rock or maybe blues or country..

*Is music a full time job for you now or do you have a job beside music? If so, what kind of job are you doing? If you would be really succesful with music, would you quit your other job?

We all have fulltime jobs beside music. Matthias is a social worker, Haui works as street worker haha no he works for asphalt coating, Ralph is in the construction industry and Martl is a mother of two children and the maintenance man by the way. Making a living out of music is really difficult to handle nowadays, If possible you needed to be on the road all the time and three of us are family fathers and it would be another story if we all were just students but of course we would love to play a lot of exciting shows and also get a bit around the world!

*If you could start a band with other musicians on other instruments, which artist would you pick for wich instrument and why? (Something Like an “All Stars Band”.) Would you still go for a thrash metal band? Or would you do something completely different?

We know each other for quite a long time and I think we would play somehow with the old band carousel again. There are endless creative people and virtuosues in every country all over the world. It wouldn’d be really difficult to find some bandmates I guess! But it definitly should sound like kick ass music!

*If you had been banned to an uninhabited island and you may pick 5 albums to listen to, wich albums would you choose and why?

Pantera – ‘Vulgar Display Of Power’ – one of the best

Pissing Razors – ‘Where We Come From’ – the title should lead us home

Black Sabbath – ‘Master Of Reality’ – for the lonely moments

Exodus – ‘Tempo Of The Damned’ – one of the most crushing thrash ever written

Faceless Burial – ‘Speciation’ – the new CD just came out a couple of weeks before our 2nd album and it has the same opening title called “Worship” and the whole thing blows me away!

*Every new album (or ep) of a band or an artist is the best one, that’s what they always say. So here is a chance to promote the album. Why should a music lover buy your album? What are the standout tracks for you on this new album and why?

We are very proud of the whole album. In my opinion you can listen it from the 1st to last track! The recording sessions – everything was amazing, to work with our friend Andreas Reinhart from Subsoundstation and get the whole monster mastered by one of the best Henrik Udd. Listen to it and you will like it or not anyway!

See “CD-Review” for a review (written in Dutch) for the new Silius album ‘Worship To Extinction’ (Rock Of Angels Records) –

*I suppose you will promote this album through live concerts (when of course everyting is getting back to “normal” after the Covid 19 disaster). If so, would you prefer small clubs or big festivals? And is there a chance we can see Silius in Belgium?

We would love to come to Belgium! At the time we can’t really tell you anything about the situation next year ‘cause we don’t know by ourselves! We always loved to play live and this is when Silius is at it’s best. So stay tune and check out our websitte from time to time and hopefully we come to your country in a short time! Thank you for the Interview!

Best Regards!

Matthias, Haui, Martl & Ralph
